Elly hates being a fairy, she can’t stand the clothes and loathes flying (she prefers skateboarding). After being expelled from four fairy schools she is about to go to human school. When her parents have to go away on secret fairy business they decide to enroll her at fairy boarding school. Elly is horrified and persuades them she can stay next door and go to school with Jess. Jess is the only one who knows that Elly is a fairy and she helps her to cope with the very different ‘normal’ school. To Elly’s amazement spelling tests have no wands involved, they just mean writing words down! Stranger things happen at cooking lessons when Elly’s sausage rolls roll and every basketball she throws ends up in the basket. Convinced someone else at the school is a secret fairy, she and Jess go ‘undercover’ and even join the despised fairy club in an attempt to discover who it is. Many things are not what they seem and then Grandma Knottleweed-Eversprightly arrives on the scene to complicate things. A highly entertaining and imaginative second volume for young readers that also stands alone for those new to the series. Amusing illustrations add to the text.
