The simple texts in these two new additions to the ‘When I’m Feeling’ series, describe two emotions we all feel at various times in our lives, using language small children can comprehend. Illustrations are of a very cute little rabbit and his/her family in settings with toys, pets, and activities that would be familiar to children. The series covers many topics and these would be useful books for parents to read aloud to children providing a vehicle to discuss the feelings involved. In When I’m Feeling Jealous I ‘think about all the things I don’t have’ but the little rabbit also tries ‘to remember all the things I do have.’ When I’m Feeling Loved says ‘Being loved teaches me how to love others and... myself.’ The use of the first person-the rabbit tells the stor-makes the stories accessible for little children. They can identify with the rabbit’s feelings, validating their own and perhaps, begin to understand that everyone has these emotions. Background notes for parents are provided by a child psychologist, who advocates helping children understand their feelings and developing healthy self-esteem. Other titles in the series include the states angry, sad, scared, happy and lonely.
