Book Reviews - Therapeutic Yoga by Mosaraf Ali

UK Kirkus Review » Therapeutic Yoga is a new term but an ancient concept. It's an all-inclusive therapy that incorporates breath control, physical exercises (hatha yoga), massage, meditation and relaxation. The aim is to boost all-round well-being, harness natural healing powers and promote recovery from illness. In this attractive book, media doctor Mosaraf Ali and respected yoga practitioner Jiwan Brar advise readers on diet, massage, breathing exercises, yoga poses and relaxation techniques. The rewards promised from regular practice include better health, more energy, improved concentration, less stress and a calmer state of mind. Learning to control breathing, it is claimed, will improve general well-being, improve energy levels, alertness and clarity of mind and even treat ill-health. Unlike many Western forms of exercise, yoga addresses the needs of all the body's muscles, and the controlled muscle contractions and breathing techniques are also believed to improve blood circulation. In addition, this book contains detailed yoga therapy for specific conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, backache, migraines and other illnesses that often prove resistant to modern medicine. Written clearly and presented in an easy-to-follow style, this is an excellent handbook for those who want to incorporate the principles of therapeutic yoga into their daily life. (Kirkus UK)
