This is the perenial play group favourite. Lift the flap books are always a hit but this one is so well known and well loved by everyone.
Kids have fun guessing the animals by what is showing and you can try and catch them out by pretending it's something else.
In the end, though, the pet the kid ends up with is kind of dull and predictable. I kind of hoped for a twist.....Sadly no - but I guess if the kid reading it was hoping to get an anaconda out of mum or dad it dispels any aspirations!

This is the perenial favourite at library and playgroup story time. The children love identifying the animals, making their noises and lifting the flaps to see what pet comes next from the zoo.
The simple but colourful and affective illustrations enhance the text. This is a book you will be happy to read to your children over and over and they will no doubt learn to read it to you (and hopefully themselves).
This book is a beautiful starting point also for discussing with your children what pet might (or might not) be appropriate for them, you and your household.
Author Biography - Rod Campbell
Date- 2013-08-06 Rod Campbell was born in Scotland in 1945. His family moved to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) when he was two years old. Despite his artistic talents, he had a scientific higher education and subsequently went to Britain where he obtained a doctorate in organic chemistry. Soon after, he gave up science to follow his interests in art. Since then he has created a number of hugely successful and innovative books for children, the best known being Dear Zoo. In 1987 he founded his own incredibly successful publishing company, Campbell Books, which was bought by Macmillan in 1995. Rod Campbell's approach to books for babies and toddlers is instinctive, with simplicity being paramount. He sees himself as a 'maker' of books rather than as an author or illustrator. He believes that however simple a story, it should always end either on an upbeat note or quietly resolved to everyone's satisfaction! Rod Campbell is the creator of many brilliant novelty books for babies and toddlers including ABC Zoo, Farm Babies, Farm Chase, Farm 123 and Noisy Farm as well as Dear Zoo, regarded as a classic.
