Description - Heathrow's Terminal 5 by Sharon Doherty
From the outset, BAA have had to think differently about how they would approach Terminal 5, one of Europe's largest construction projects. With 16 major projects and over 147 sub-projects, it encompasses a vast and hugely complex programme of works. Set to be a template for major construction projects of the future, T5 is pushing the boundaries of traditional construction, harnessing innovation and best practice from other industries and translating them into mainstream construction management. This book captures the inside track on the client, key leaders and integrated teams' story and learning, in order to share it with those in construction, aviation management or HR/change practitioners who want to understand business transformation. Within a technical context, it discusses the organisation, leadership and team story, combining data and facts with open discussion & interviews with project leaders from BAA, suppliers, insurance, government, press and the trade union. The T5 agreement and safety methodology are discussed and illustrated with models and diagrams. Tells the inside story of a successful GBP4.3 billion construction project.
Discusses the four phases of planning, design, build and operational readiness for building within the context of the key measures of success - time, cost, quality and safety. Presented as an informal business text, combining data and facts with a discursive and frank conversational approach. Includes over 100 interviews with key players including Sir John Egan and Ray O'Rourke. Illustrated throughout with photographs of the 5 year construction project and people involved. This book will be of interest to those directly involved with the T5 project, project managers, upper management & HR professionals keen to understand transformation and construction managers keen to learn from the project's success.
