Description - Lay Sermons by James Hogg
In this work, Hogg adopts the role of preacher, casting meditations on life, religion and literature in the form of sermons on such subjects as "Young Women", "Soldiers", "Reason and Intellect", "Marriage" and "Reviewers". He offers insights into the mind and work of a "justified sinner". The original edition of this work, published in 1834, is known to be incomplete and imperfect.

Author Biography - James Hogg
Gillian Hughes is the author of the biography James Hogg: A Life (EUP, 2007) and is editor of the journal Studies in Hogg and his World. She has edited or co-edited seven volumes in the Stirling/South Carolina Research Edition of the Collected Works of James Hogg series. The late Douglas S. Mack was formerly Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Stirling.
