In this excellent guide, Anita Naik provides much helpful advice - in brief accessible sections - to help us keep our cool when travelling. She divides the experience into four chapters - Starting, Travelling, Arriving and Returning Home - and reminds us that the key word for every stage is preparation. Preparing physically and mentally for a trip, whether it is long or short, means making sure we are as fit as possible and knowing what health requirements are necessary in advance. Thinking ahead will avoid or reduce the hazards that are beyond our control like bad weather or delays for other reasons; minimalist travellers and those who take a suitcase full of spare shoes will find good advice here on sensible packing, including what is needed in the way of conventional or alternative first-aid kits. Health concerns (DVT, travel sickness, jet lag, sunburn and so on) are discussed, together with where to sit on the plane, travelling with children and behaving appropriately abroad. What Anita Naik has to say is good practical common sense; she has written a simple and convenient checklist so that travellers can avoid panic and get the most out of a holiday. She is basically telling us to take responsibility for ourselves, lessen the stress, so that we plan ahead, change the way we react and keep things in proportion: useful tips for our everyday journey through life too.
