Description - Corporate Social Responsibility in India by Sanjay K. Agarwal
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the ethical behaviour of a company or business towards society. In India, it is largely understood to be philanthropy, even by corporates, which is incorrect. Philanthropy is only a tiny part of the total concept. CSR involves direct engagement with local communities, the identification of their basic needs and integration of these needs with business goals and strategic intent. As Indian Industry enters international markets, doing business on a truly global scale, it is only a matter of time before this important concept is integrated with business goals to ensure a healthy economic, social and environmental impact and to long-term sustainability. This is the first comprehensive, well-researched book on CSR in India. The author attempts to bridge the gap between Indian needs and current practices, using Indian examples, case studies and identifying CSR role models across Indian industry. The approach of the book is CSR as a critical business need, not a philosophy.
The book covers a broad range of issues including: " The business benefits of CSR " CSR and sustainable development " CSR reporting and tax issues " CSR strategies and projects in the Indian context " CSR effort of several large Indian companies
