Description - Cultural World of Jesus by John J. Pilch
This volume highlights aspects of the 1st century, Eastern-Mediterranean cultural world in which Jesus lived, and suggests a cross-cultural comparison with contemporary Western culture. With this information, readers can make more fitting applications of the scripture to modern life situations. Used as an aide in preaching, lectionary-based catechesis or scripture study, or for the interest and knowledge it brings, the book should add form and substance to the understanding of "the Word that dwelt among us." It has reflections on the Gospel reading of the Roman Lectionary for each Sunday of the volume's year. John Pilch is the author of the "Colleville Bible Commentary" and the leaflet "Selecting a Bible Translation".
