WILLIAM S. MALTBY is Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Missouri-St Louis, USA. His publications include The Black Legend in England: The Development of Anti-Spanish Sentiment, 1588-1660, Alba: A Biography of Fernando Alvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba, The Reign of Charles V and with Steven Hause, Western Civilization.
