Dr. Carta is Senior Scientist in the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies, Professor of Special Education, and Director of Early Childhood Research at Juniper Gardens Childrena (TM)s Project at the University of Kansas. Dr. Greenwood is the Director of the Juniper Gardens Childrena (TM)s Project and Professor of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas. He is a founding author of progress monitoring measures for infants and toddlers and editor of School-Wide Prevention Models: Lessons Learned in Elementary Schools (Guilford Press, 2008). He is co-principal investigator of the Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood (CRTIEC). He has more than 100 publications in peerreviewed journals to his credit. Under his leadership, the Juniper Gardens Childrena (TM)s Project was awarded the 1996 research award of the Council for Exceptional Children for its contributions to interventions for children with special needs. He was the recipient of the 2009 Higuchi Research Achievement Award in Applied Science at the University of Kansas. Kathleen M. Olson, Ph.D., is Associate Research Professor and Community Education Director for the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities. She earned her master's of social work and doctorate in educational psychology at the University of Minnesota. With more than 25 years of practical experience working with individuals in community developmental disability programs, special education environments, and mental health centers, Dr. Olson is interested in developing educational materials for direct support professionals and families of people with developmental disabilities. Dr. Rice received her doctoral degree from the University of Kansas, where she is University Distinguished Professor of Speech-Language-Hearing and Director of the Child Language Doctoral Program and the Merrill Advanced Studies Center. She has held Visiting Scientist appointments at the Center for Cognitive Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has extensive research and clinical experience with children with specific language impairment (SLI). Early in her career she worked as a speech-language pathologist in public schools. In collaboration with Kim A. Wilcox, she established the demonstration Language Acquisition Preschool (LAP) at the University of Kansas. Her current research addresses several aspects of the condition of SLI: social and academic consequences, morphology, lexical learning, and preschool language intervention. Her publications include the edited volumes The Teachability of Language and Toward a Genetics of Language, as well as numerous journal articles and invited chapters. Steven F. Warren, Ph.D., Professor, Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders, Dole Human Development Center, University of Kansas, 1000 Sunnyside Avenue, #3045, Lawrence, Kansas 66045Dr. Steven Warren's research has focused on communication and language development and intervention. Working with various colleagues, Dr. Warren has contributed to the creation of pre-linguistic and milieu intervention approaches. Much of his research has focused on the effect of these intervention approaches and on the role of parenting on moderating the impact of developmental disorders, such as Down syndrome and fragile X Syndrome.
