Within the international art world Colin de Land Fine Art was a gallery known for its anti-commercial, risk-taking practices and for its charasmatic owner who championed a perennially marginalised discourse that critiqued the status quo of gallery practice. Here are photographs culled from de Land's extensive archive providing an intimate glimpse of the activities and personalities that frequented the gallery during its heyday.

Author Biography - Timothy Greenfield-Sanders

Dennis Balk is an artist who worked with "American Fine Arts" and Colin de Land for more than a decade. Asked by Mr. de Land to care for the archive, Balk now presents this book as the first effort to bring the photographs into the public sphere. Balk exhibits work internationally and is the author of "Particles + Waves with Plausibility" (powerHouse Books, 2005). He has two other titles "forthcoming: a sci-fi paperback," coauthored with Gean Moreno, and an artist book composed primarily of work generated in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf. Balk lives and works in Bahrain.
