This handbook offers rock musicians at every level a guide to enduring and triumphing in the music industry. From making a musical discovery to developing partnership agreements to choosing the right city to launch a career, musicians are encouraged to pursue their music goals wisely. There is advice for bands hoping to sign a recording contract on demo deals, bidding wars, entering negotiations, and evaluating releases and options. The crucial roles of the non-musical members of a successful team are defined, helping readers to know when to consult attorneys, managers, publicists, agents, accountants and others. There are explanations of print and grand rights, demonstrating how to distinguish between mechanical, synchronisation, and performance income generated by publishing, merchandising and endorsement deals. Special sections address the pitfalls and pleasures of life on the road, staying financially afloat during lean times, and supplementing one's income.
