St Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school - it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St Vladimir's - the very place where they're most in danger...Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable night-time rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi - the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires - make Lissa one of them forever.

okay after forever of putting off this series due to those who urged the recommendation I seriously regret it! I loved this book - I wish I had read it all those years ago so I could have known these characters all this time.
The book does start off a bit slow and I think that all the different races leads to some confusion at first while you are trying to get into the story but once you get into it its very easy to follow!

Oh my gosh, I recently re-read this book, and I'd forgotten how great it is! I read all in just one day, I couldn't put it down. This really is one of the better vampire series - Richelle Mead has created a whole world that draws you in, and that you don't want to leave! The character of Rose is the perfect heroine - which don't come around very often. I definately recommend this book for teenage girls and young adult readers - and the character of Rose is tough enough to possibly appeal to male readers, too! I just can't wait to re-read the rest of the series.

Richelle Mead writes one of the most creative vampire books ever. Its not just another vampire book, this one has a whole different world, and I love it. There are three different vamps, one the civil blood sucking vamps, another - their bodyguards, and the last one - the evil, heartless blood sucking killers. Lissa and Rose has run away from the academy, but they are found. They're dragged back and Rose has to do extra training sessions with a hot mentor to catch up on her work. But can they fall in love and risk everything? Moroi always came first, but they love each other. The evil guy is quite a surprise but you must read. You might not get it but continue reading the series and you'll fall in love.
