JOHN FUNSTON was a senior fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore until March 2001. The CONTRIBUTORS are country specialists, mostly at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, the region's premier research institution, and at universities in Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and the USA.
