UK Kirkus Review »
Delphine, from Copenhagen, enchanted by a painting by French artist Jean-Luc Foreur, can't resist sending him a fan letter. Although married, he cannot resist responding... A novel in the form of letters seems old-fashioned, but imparts a thrilling intensity as the relationship blossoms from mischievous teasing to flirting, into passion. It creates an atmosphere which is almost claustrophobic, evoked by emotional description, interrupted, now and then, by the physical world, the writers picturing themselves visiting galleries, and hotels. What will happen when they eventually meet? The final twist hits the reader with as much of a coup de foudre as Delphine's realization that she is in love. 'Belletrist' is used of English writers, but could they turn out something as exquisite, extraordinary and erotic as this first novel (allowing, occasionally, for le mot injuste - saucy rather than risque)? Anybody listening out there, this could make an Oscar-laden movie. (Kirkus UK)
