The third book in the Family Grit series continues the delightful tales of the family of mice, intertwined with the adventures of the human inhabitants of the great house in which the mice live. Lady Constance Stanton has learned the news that her husband, Sir Stanley Stanton, has been found alive and well after a twenty-year absence in Africa. Meanwhile, the maid, who has the rare gift of being able to talk with the mice, is anticipating the homecoming of Dandelion. Amongst the tidings of joy there is a hint of darkness: the maid, who believes she has been feeding the ever-growing Family Grit, has in fact been feeding the wicked "Ratlings" allowing them to multiply.
