Description - Changing the Wor(l)d by Stacey Young

This text is a critique of the political science research and writing that has been done on the women's movement in the United States. It argues that this work has privileged liberal feminism over other feminist activity, much of it more subversive and radical. It also critiques this work for perpetuating the marginal status of lesbians, women of colour, working class women and other groups who have historically been ignored by political scientists, even those who specialize in women and politics. The text is grounded in a number of real-world case studies. It focuses, for instance, on feminist publishing and the books it has produced, in order to provide political scientists and feminist theorists with an example of an alternative methodology that can help to transform the field of political science.
