Author Biography - Margaret Mahy

Margaret Mahy, the iconic children's author from New Zealand who sadly died in 2012, wrote more than 200 books for children of all ages and is acknowledged to be one of the outstanding children's writers of the twentieth century. In 2006 she was presented with the Hans Christian Andersen medal, which is the highest international recognition granted to authors and illustrators of children's books. Twice winner of the Carnegie Medal, several of her books have become modern classics. Joyce Dunbar was born and brought up in Lincolnshire. She taught English for 20 years before becoming a full-time writer. Her books for children include This is the Star, which in 1996 became a world-wide best-seller, and Mundo and the Weatherchild, which was runner-up for the 1985 Guardian Children's Fiction Award.
