Description - Feathers for Phoebe by Rod Clement

A story about a bird who learns that fine feathers don't necessarily make fine birds.

Phoebe is small, grey, and ordinary - very ordinary. 'I want to get noticed!' she declares. Zelda is glamorous, talented and famous - and she runs the most popular beauty salon in the forest. And she's only too happy to help Phoebe become the bird she's always wanted to be. First a little feather headdress, then wing extensions - until Phoebe is transformed into a Diva. She looks gorgeous - but when she tries to take off, surprises are in store for them both! Ages 3-8.

Book Review: Feathers for Phoebe by Rod Clement - Reviewed by (15 Jul 2013)

Feathers For Phoebe is a very cute book with a hidden message.

The story is about Phoebe who is afraid that she isnt being noticed, so Phoebe decides that if she has some color feathers that she will become the person she wants to be. This book is quite amusing as Phoebe finds her Feathers.

The illustrations are very funny and nicely done and really enhance the readers experience.

There is a message about being yourself and not pretending to be someone you shouldn't be. Although this message may go over the head of the really young readers. Recommended story.

Book Review: Feathers for Phoebe by Rod Clement - Reviewed by (28 Jun 2011)

This is a beautiful book for primary students and a fun book to read to kids! A little grey bird goes to great lengths to be noticed but eventually realises she is perfect just the way she is. Prep or early primary students would enjoy this book as a funny story. The colourful illustrations and fun to read script makes reading to a group fun for all.

Older students will enjoy this cute book and could also be used to lead to discuss body image issues and to tap into their own inner beauty. Peer pressure is even a topic that could be discussed after reading this book too.

There is a beautiful message of finding acceptance for our image just the way we are and not to get caught up in what others think of us.

Author Biography - Rod Clement

Humour prevails in Rod s books with wacky and exaggerated situations and illustrations, and his nature-lover's eye helps him portray the animal world with a precision and flair that makes images leap off the page. When he went to school, Rod s main ambition was to draw and to make people laugh. Living in Papua New Guinea for several years as a child gave Rod an intense awareness of nature and his initial work was in the realism mould. Rod soon decided that this was too restrictive and that he wanted to draw straight from the imagination. His acclaimed picture books include Counting on Frank, Just Another Ordinary Day and the bestselling Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu, both written by Sheena Knowles. Grandad's Teeth has been shortlisted for the Children s Book Council 1998 Awards in the Picture Book category. Rod currently works for the Australian Financial Review drawing daily cartoons, some of which are collected in The Economic Rationalist's Guide to Sex. Rod lives in NSW with his wife and three daughters.
