Author Biography - Dominic Malcolm

Dominic Malcolm is Reader in the Sociology of Sport in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Loughborough University, UK. Dominic has published on a wide range of subjects within the sociology of sport, but current research focuses on two themes: the development, diffusion and globalization of cricket; and medical aspects of sport and the body. In the first theme Dominic has published numerous papers on the role of violence, imperial and postcolonial relations and national identity in the development of cricket. In the second, Dominic has published papers the management and social construction of pain and injury in rugby union, the working practices of doctors and physiotherapists in sport, and on drug use in professional football He is author of Globalizing Cricket, Sport & Sociologyã andã Theã Sage Dictionary of Sports Studies and editor of The Social Organization of Sports Medicine: Critical Socio-Cultural Perspectivesã (with P. Safai). He is currently working on an edited text Sport and English National Identity in a `disunited Kingdom' (with T. Gibbons) Philippa Velija teaches on the sociology of sport at Southampton Solent University, UK. Philippa has published on a range of topics within the sociology of sport. Her research has drawn on figurational sociology as a framework for understanding the development of sport for women and the experiences of women in predominantly male sports. She has published papers in sociology journals on women's experiences of cricket, MMA and within the horse racing environment as well as publishing on girls experiences of GCSE PE. She is author of Women's Cricket and Global Processes.
