Description - A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

The first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. GAME OF THRONES is now a major TV series from HBO, starring Sean Bean.
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the North, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ... and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

Book Review: Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin - Reviewed by (03 Aug 2011)

If you are new to fantasy this is a good book to start with, but be worn once you open this book, you might not want to close it. The plots are intricate and complicated, the description of the characters are just wonderful you feel like you can be part of the story. I also liked the fact that the chapters are based on each characters instead of numbers. The level of intrigue is more than any other fantasy series I've ever read. There are so many different family stories intertwined that it makes for a very complicated read. I had to refer to the map every now and then to get an idea of the location they were at.

Good reading all.

Book Review: Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin - Reviewed by (11 Jul 2011)

After watching the HBO drama based upon this book, I immediately ordered it (and the rest of the available series) because I had to know what happened next. This is the brilliance of what George R. R. Martin has created - an addictive modern fantasy, but not in the good vs evil model. Instead, each character follows their own motivations and reasoning to do what they do - be it for honour, glory, love, hate, lust or greed. Together with a very detailed setting, well crafted history and an intriguing mythos, this is a fantasy epic for the modern age that in turn has you enchanted, awed, sad and shocked. Brilliant.
