Book Review: Gus The Asparagus by Ann-Marie Finn - Reviewed by (19 Jul 2015)

This book is a delightful combination of a real chuckle and a serious message – being different is OK, and it helps to understand that some people are wired differently to others. The text is simple, direct and plays perfectly with the illustrations. Kaylene Hobson and Ann-Marie Finn have done a masterful job at giving an asparagus personality - Gus the Asparagus is funny and annoying, irritating and endearing. Gus is an individual - anyone who has known someone a bit ‘different’ (especially if they are on the Autism spectrum) would find Gus instantly recognisable; and a child who feels out of place would feel an affinity with Gus and find hope in the story.
