Description - The Road film tie-in by Cormac McCarthy

A father and his young son walk alone through burned America, heading slowly for the coast. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. They have nothing but a pistol to defend themselves against the men who stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food - and each other.

this book is sometimes criticised for being to reliant on style.

a father and son travel through an unrelentingly barren, ash covered post-apocalyptic world. a world where food has run out and the remaining people resort to whatever means they have to survive.

a harrowing story; repetitive, brutal, beyond tragedy.

the depiction of childhood as a time of uncanny wisdom and the fear that comes from too much knowledge too young; of a father too frail to protect his son from harsh realities; a son at times protecting his father, and carrying the burden of optimism in a hopeless situation...

and, suprisingly, a post apocalyptic adam and eve tale.

The depressing journey of a father and his young son in a post apocalyptic world where children are rare and need to be protected.

This is quite a dull and repetitive book but despite this there is something that makes you want to read on. It is not a long read however which makes this achievable.

The descriptive text makes it easy to imagine the scene, even for those, like me, who have not seen the movie. It is more than a road, more like a journey into the unknown, the impossible and the inevitable.

Not an enjoyable book but worth reading none the less.

A father and his son travel through a post apocalyptic world where the only thing that stands above them is the dead trees throughout the burned and ravaged landscape.

The Road tells the incredible story of a father and son's relationship where they must stick together through any circumstance to survive. The writing is beautiful and gives the ultimate feeling that you are watching the tragic events in the book unfold. The action, drama and emotion is unflinching and through it's amazing drama and suspense you will experience reading like you never have before. Highly reccomended.
