Book Review: The Lure of Noma: On the Elegance of Religion by Darshi Arachige - Reviewed by Sandya S (07 Feb 2011)
In this book the author first makes a strong case for the existence of religion in our life by examining evolutionary, psychological and social forces that underpin them. The author then looks at the roots of religion of each of the major faiths, exploring the concept that each had a charismatic founder with which to propagate the ideas of the faith. Finally, a case is made for Stephen Jay Gould’s Non-Overlapping Magisteria (NOMA) with which to balance the conflict science has traditionally had with religion.
The author has made this book an enjoyable read with topics described in rich detail and cross referenced with examples from philosophy, science and history showing a wide knowledge of the subject areas. Furthermore, the author adds a personal touch to the book by drawing upon his own experiences to shows us that religion is an interesting and above all, relevant subject in our lives. While I did enjoy the many references to famous works, I hope that revised editions will include a recommended reading list section as a precursor to this book.

The book is well researched explores evolution of region, from historical, philosophical and scientific view points. A very easy read from start to finish and contains valuable points to Darwinism debate.
